Tottenham boss Jose Mourinho has teased that he might have the trio of Gio Lo Celso, Steven Bergwijn, and Hugo Lloris all back for this weekend’s clash with Chelsea.
The London rivals meet in a crucial tie in the Premier League, with both sides in fine form heading into the game.
Mourinho’s men ran out comfortable winners against Ludogrets in midweek, while Frank Lampard’s Chelsea edged past Rennes 2-1 in their own European tie.
And the Spurs boss, who was speaking to Football.London ahead of the game, admitted he is hopeful of positive injury news when pressed on the availability of the Tottenham trio.
“I want to believe yes. We could push but we didn’t want to risk, and this 12 players on the bench [in European games] gives you space for everything.”
The Spurs boss didn’t go into much detail surrounding the decision to leave the trio out in midweek but did hint that all three were not at full fitness by stating it was so he could ‘push’ in the game if needed.
Lloris, in particular, is key for Spurs. The skipper has been a regular and looks back to his best this term after a few shaky errors last term.
Huge boost and Mourinho needs everyone fit – TBR View
This is probably the most exciting game for a while in the Premier League and one that could have big ramifications for the title race, even at this early stage.
It’s a chance to impose yourself on your rivals and gives both clubs the opportunity to show they mean business when it comes to winning the title this year.
Having Lo Celso, Bergwijn and Lloris back should be a huge boost for Spurs as he looks to get one over his former player, Frank Lampard.
