‘I want him’: Some Spurs fans urge club to consider hiring 37-year-old as coach

A number of Tottenham Hotspur fans have urged Spurs to bring Michel Vorm back to the club in a coaching role after the Dutchman announced his retirement from professional football.

The 37-year-old made 48 competitive appearances for Tottenham over two spells, the first between the summers of 2014 and 2019, and the second between October last year and the end of the 2019-20 season.

He initially left Tottenham at the end of the 2018-19 campaign, before returning four months later on a short term deal following an injury to Hugo Lloris.

“Michel’s daily work with skipper and number one Hugo over the years cannot be underestimated, as well as his influence on our younger goalkeepers, the likes of Alfie Whiteman and Brandon Austin,” Spurs wrote on their website.

“Indeed, it’s away from matchdays and friendships forged over his six years with us that have left a lasting impression on the former Dutch international from Ijsselstein, Utrecht – he’s made friends for life.”

Given Vorm’s impact off the pitch and on the training ground, some Spurs supporters reckon he’d be a great shout for a coaching role at Hotspur Way:

Vorm began his career with Utrecht in his native Netherlands, making the senior team in 2006 before moving to Swansea in 2011, where he made 97 competitive appearances.

The 6ft stopper was also capped 15 times by the Oranje, and was included in the Dutch squad for both the 2010 and 2014 World Cup, as well as the 2012 European Championship.
