'I told him': Xhaka explains the real reason why Thomas Partey has struggled at Arsenal

Arsenal midfielder Granit Xhaka has delivered his verdict on Thomas Partey and the reason behind his struggles at the Emirates.

The Ghanaian joined the Gunners from Atletico Madrid for £45 million in 2020 (BBC). Many fans and pundits believed that Partey would take Arsenal to a whole new level, but the 28-year-old has had his problems.

Injuries have been one of the biggest reasons why Partey has failed to be at his best. However, Xhaka thinks there’s another reason as well and it has nothing to do with what has happened on the pitch.

The Swiss international believes Partey is too worried about his price tag.

Xhaka: Why Thomas Partey has struggled at Arsenal

The Arsenal midfielder told The Athletic about the Ghanaian: “He cost a lot of money and people today see only the price. But I think it is wrong because it’s not our fault if people pay 50, 60, 100 million.

“If I can help him, I will. I told him he has to take the pressure from himself because he has the qualities to play in every team. He’s thinking he has to show to everyone why he cost 50 million euros. He is starting to understand that and is doing much better.

“With Thomas, every time he was in good shape he was out with small injuries, and I hope he stays first of all healthy without injury. I love to play with him. He is a great midfielder and an amazing, amazing, amazing guy. He is a guy who wants to improve, is coming in asking you questions and is open to learn.”

Xhaka’s right, Partey has to stop worrying about how much Arsenal paid for him.

The Ghanaian proved at Atletico Madrid that he’s worth every penny that the Gunners forked out for him. Some people even viewed it as a bargain last year, but things, sadly, haven’t quite gone to plan for him in North London.

However, Partey has shown his quality in flashes. He is world-class when he’s in the mood and it’s just the matter of finding consistency in his game now.

The 28-year-old has looked a lot better recently and having someone like Xhaka next to him is a great thing. Both players are hugely experienced and Arsenal fans will be hoping that they can build on their recent form and help their side finish in the top four.
