‘I thought he would suffer’… Pundit shocked by how well £22m Tottenham player is doing this season

Tottenham have surprised everyone this season.

The north London club were bracing for a season of disappointment after last year. Under Antonio Conte the football was abject and drab, and after losing Harry Kane in the summer, things weren’t expected to get better.

However, Spurs have kicked on under Ange Postecoglou, and speaking on The Stand with Eamon Dunphy, John Giles has highlighted one player who has really shocked him this season.

Indeed, Giles says that he never expected Heung-Min Son to be as good as he has been this season, stating that he thought his performances may dip without Harry Kane in the team.

Son has shocked Giles

The pundit shared his verdict on the £22m man.

“Son has continued to be a wonderful player hasn’t he? Him and Kane had a great partnership and people thought he would suffer, but he has eight goals this season and he’s not suffering at all,” Dunphy said.

“I thought he would suffer Eamon, you look back at the Kane relationship, he made a lot of goals for him, he did struggle at the start of the season but he moved into a different position. He’s a real pro, he’s absolutely brilliant and he’s back doing it again scoring goals how we know he can,” Giles said.

Better than ever

Son has been better than he has any right to be this season.

The South Korean lost his partner in crime this summer. That partnership was the backbone of this Spurs team for so many years, but now, Son has proven that he didn’t need Kane to be a star at Tottenham.

Of course, Kane has also proven at Bayern Munich that he doesn’t need Son to be a star in his own right.

This partnership was fantastic for many years, but, at the same time, the two individuals are also good enough to be stars in their own rights.
