Paul Merson has had his say on what he expects from Tottenham Hotspur in the January transfer window.
Spurs have looked good under Antonio Conte recently. They picked up a good point against Liverpool before beating West Ham United to go through to the semi-final of the Carabao Cup.
If Conte gets his tactics right, Tottenham could book a trip to Wembley for the final of the cup, just like last season. Manchester City beat them earlier this year, but under their new boss, things could be very different.
However, Spurs will need a lot of help in the January transfer window and here’s what Merson thinks will happen…
Paul Merson: Tottenham will sign a few players in January
While predicting the game on Sunday between Spurs and Crystal Palace, Merson wrote on Sportskeeda: “This is going to be a good game. Antonio Conte’s managing to get a tune out of Tottenham now, and they’ve looked good this month.
“I don’t see Conte being content with the team he’s got – Spurs aren’t going to make big-money signings this January but I think they will bring a few players in next month.
“Crystal Palace have plenty of energy in midfield with Gallagher, and they could cause Spurs a fair share of problems. There will be a lot of goals here and I think Palace can get something out of this Premier League game.
“Prediction: Tottenham 2-2 Crystal Palace.”

TBR View:
The January transfer window is a very difficult period to pull off big signings. Conte would undoubtedly love a few top-quality players, but it’s not likely that Daniel Levy will allow him to break the bank next month.
Spurs have been linked with plenty of players already. From Dusan Vlahovic to Ousmane Dembele, the rumour mill has been active, but it will be extremely difficult for Conte, Levy and Paratici to get those two deals over the line.
The likeliest scenario for Spurs is that they’ll complete a couple of smart signings to give them the push they need to finish in a respectable position. In the summer, we expect Conte will be given much more help and that’s when we’ll see what Tottenham are all about in the transfer market.
