‘I think’: Frank Lampard makes comment about Richarlison straight after Everton’s defeat last night

Everton boss Frank Lampard made a comment about Tottenham Hotspur forward Richarlison straight after his side’s defeat to Newcastle United last night. 

The Brazilian completed a move away from Goodison Park over the summer after helping Lampard’s men avoid relegation. 

The 25-year-old finished as Everton’s top-scorer during the last campaign and it seems that they are missing his goals at the moment.

The Toffees fell to a 1-0 defeat at St James’ Park last night as their struggles in front of goal continued. Lampard’s side have only managed to score eight goals in their opening 11 games, which is a worry for the Englishman.

And straight after last night’s defeat, he mentioned the loss of Richarlison over the summer.

Lampard makes comment about Richarlison

“We’re working on the style, the way we want to play and how to get bodies up there,” Lampard told the Athletic.

“You have to put the pieces together as it’s a fresh team. Dominic’s back now but we lost Richarlison and know we have work to do in that area.

“I think that no shots on target is a slight red herring. We’ve stopped conceding as many goals and some of our build-up play was good against one of the most aggressive pressing sides in the league. Then you move up the pitch.

“Sometimes you need to show the players and talk about decision-making because we got it wrong. Can we get more goals from our wingers? We can possibly add (in the market) there but it’s not in my thoughts at present.”

The Toffees did bring in Neal Mauapy from Brighton over the summer and the Frenchman has put in some decent displays. But he’s never managed to become a prolific goalscorer in the Premier League and has scored just once so far this season.

The return of Dominic Calvert-Lewin will be a massive boost for Lampard, with the striker starting for the first time this season at St James’ Park last night.

But it’s clear that Everton are missing Richarlison’s touch of class in the final third at this moment in time. They’ve become a solid outfit defensively but need to find a way to start scoring goals more frequently.
