‘I screamed aloud’: Ibrahima Konate in absolute hysterics over what Liverpool have done

Liverpool defender Ibrahima Konate has revealed just how much he enjoyed last Sunday’s Carabao Cup triumph.

The Reds played out a fiercely-contested 0-0 draw with Chelsea at Wembley after 120 minutes.

And in the ensuing penalty shootout, neither side could be separated after all the outfielders scored their spot-kicks.

This left Liverpool goalkeeper Caoimhin Kelleher and Chelsea counterpart Kepa Arrizabalaga needing to take penalties.

While the Reds stopper netted a superb effort from 12 yards, Kepa sent his well over the crossbar.

Cue wild celebrations among the Liverpool contingent and fans, who lifted their first League Cup since 2012.

Konate came on in the 91st minute and fared well against Romelu Lukaku.

The 22-year-old then successfully converted his spot-kick in the penalty shootout.

It marked the first time Konate had won a trophy in his professional career – hopefully the first of many.

Indeed, Liverpool remain in pursuit of the three remaining trophies available to top-flight English teams.

The Reds are still in the Premier League title race, in the FA Cup quarter-finals, and in the Champions League last 16.

“Unreal, unbelievable weekend”

Speaking to the Liverpool media team ahead of Saturday’s meeting with West Ham, Konate was asked to reflect on the final.

“I think if I start to speak about this, we will not stop!” he said.

“It was an unreal, unbelievable weekend for me. My first title in professional football and with Liverpool, it was amazing and great.

“I was very, very happy and I’m happy today also that we have a lot of important games.

“We have to, not forget, but you have to put this [the final] to one side and we have to keep going for the rest of the season.

“I swear, one day after this game I remember I was in my bed before sleeping and I watched some videos from after the game with the players, with the coach and everything and I screamed aloud, you know!

“Because I was very happy and of course, when you play it’s more unbelievable for me.

“I don’t have the words to describe this moment but I hope I will have a lot of moments like that with the club.”
