‘I saw you’: BT interviewer spotted what Lacazette was doing on the bench after being subbed off last night

Alexandre Lacazette put in an excellent captain’s display fore Arsenal last night as they saw off Wolves at Molineux last night.

The Frenchman has grown into one of Mikel Arteta’s key players in recent months. The decision to give him the armband following Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang’s falling out and subsequent transfer to Barcelona.

It was Lacazette’s presence in the 18-yard box which helped Gabriel score the winner for the Gunners. However, Mikel Arteta still took the experienced striker off late on as he looked to manage the final stages of the game. At the time of the substitution, the cameras picked up on Lacazette and Arteta in deep conversation on the bench. Indeed, it did look a bit like the Frenchman wasn’t happy.

However, speaking to BT Sport after the game Lacazette explained that there was nothing sinister in the discussions, simply implying it was just tactical chat.

‘I saw you on the bench there, having quite the chat with Mikel Arteta. Can you tell us what that was all about?”, the interviewer asked Lacazette.

“No, it was just something tactical. Nothing crazy,” Lacazette replied.

Arteta was then seen on the pitch chasing down Lacazette for a big hug at the full-time whistle. This, after Lacazette had basically refused to sit down for the last 20 minutes, something the interview again picked up on.

“It seemed like you didn’t particularly enjoy watching the last 20 minutes, you didn’t sit down once watching your teammates defend,” he asked.

“Yeah it’s always stressful to see this kind of game, more because you’re 10 against 11. But I’m proud of my team because they handled it well. Well done to everyone,” Lacazette responded.

TBR’s View: Is Lacazette Worth A New Arsenal Contract

A few months ago you’d have said that it was nailed on that Arsenal were going to let Lacazette leave. He is on big money, is into his 30s, and the club is building for the future.

However, now, you have to ask whether he is worth a new deal after all. His experience has been vital lately, while his actual performances have also been outstanding.

Certainly, it has left Edu and co with a huge decision to make this summer.
