I saw ‘unbelievable’ £12m Arsenal player prove that he has to start against FC Porto on Tuesday

On what proved to be another excellent win for Arsenal against Brentford, one player surely booked their spot to start against FC Porto on Tuesday.

Mikel Arteta’s side haven’t faced too much adversity in their recent run of eight straight league wins since the turn of the year.

As you’d expect, Liverpool did prove tough opposition at the start of February, but otherwise Arsenal have been blowing away teams.

And in truth, that probably could have been the case last night as well, had Aaron Ramsdale not made a costly error.

But ultimately Arsenal were able to get past Brentford given Kai Havertz’s late goal, and they may now actually be better prepared to face Porto’s low block.

That being said, Arteta will have a number of selection calls to make, with the likes of Thomas Partey, Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko all pushing for starts.

However, given Jorginho delivered another assured display in the pivot last night, he’s surely earned a starting spot for Tuesday’s crucial tie.

Perhaps the £12m-midfielder won’t be the first name on fan’s lips after the win, but the Italian did deliver another masterclass in the middle.

Jorginho deserves to keep his Arsenal spot against Porto after Brentford display

As well as the obvious benefits Jorginho brings in simply allowing Declan Rice to play in a more advanced role, the 32-year-old was also spraying some excellent passes around.

Jorginho wasn’t simply recycling play, but also looking to play the killer ball which he managed on multiple occasions.

And although Jorginho was ultimately sacrificed last night when chasing the game, he was integral to Arsenal’s structure in the 70 minutes he played.

The Italian really has been ‘unbelievable’ when called upon this season.

And with Partey looking understandably off the pace in his short cameo last night, it would represent a risk for Arteta to make the switch.

Perhaps the Arsenal boss would prefer to play Rice in the pivot against Porto, as he did when chasing the game against Brentford, but Arteta will surely stay cautious in his approach initially.

Arsenal aren’t losing attacking impetus when Jorginho plays, he’s simply making the side better right now.

All that being said, pundit Gary Lineker was amazed by the character one Arsenal player showed last night.
