‘I remember’: Ian Wright says one Arsenal player is getting the Granit Xhaka treatment from the fans now

Kai Havertz hasn’t had the easiest of starts to life at Arsenal.

The German is yet to score a single goal from open play, and his all-round performances just haven’t been up to scratch.

Somewhat understandably, Arsenal fans are starting to lose patience with the £65m man, and speaking on the Wrighty’s House Podcast, Ian Wright has offered some words of encouragement.

The pundit says that Havertz’s treatment from the fans reminds him of the way Granit Xhaka was treated before he won the crowd around, and according to Wright, the best thing Havertz can do is to just keep his head down and keep doing what he’s doing.

Havertz getting the Xhaka treatment

Wright shared his verdict on the German.

“There doesn’t seem to be a lot of patience. I remember what Granit Xhaka had to go through and he won them back over. I think Kai Haverz has to keep doing what he’s doing and find the confidence from somewhere, I hope Mikel keeps playing him,” Wright said.

“Taking him off and taking Kai out of the firing line is succumbing. I’m not saying I want Kai Havertz to turn into this running around kicking everybody machine, that’s not his forte, he’s a very good technical player, he can slip those balls in, he can score goals and he can create. I can feel his energy dropping off, he needs to get out of that. He has something,” Wright said.

Needs to change it up

Wright says that Havertz needs to keep doing what he’s doing, but that hasn’t worked so far, has it?

Something has to change here. He needs to start thinking about the game differently, find some confidence from somewhere or, for the umpteenth time in recent years, change position.

Havertz is having a slow start at Arsenal right now, and he needs to find a way to get himself going and find a bit of form.
