'I remember': 21-year-old youngster claims Alexandre Lacazette was telling him to leave Arsenal last season
The 21-year-old forward has joined Ligue 1 side Stade de Reims on loan this season.
After failing to make an impact in Arsenal’s first team last season, Balogun needed a temporary move away from The Emirates.
And it was Arsenal’s former number nine that convinced Balogun to move abroad to France.
Balogun ended up following Lacazette to France, although they ended up at opposite sides of the country.
Lacazette has returned to his boyhood club Lyon, and the two players have already met during a 1-1 draw last month.
Lacazette was telling Balogun to leave
When asked about Lacazette, Balogun said: “He’s obviously a very big player.
“And when I was at Arsenal he was always helping me, always trying to help me to improve, always teaching me techniques.
“I remember speaking to Lacazette and he told me that I need to go to Ligue 1.
“He kept saying, ‘Go to Ligue 1, you’ll do well here’, so maybe he should become an agent as well because he has good football knowledge.”
It turns out Lacazette was right to recommend to Balogun that France was the right destination for a loan move.
Balogun has scored five goals and provided two assists in his first six appearances.
Mikel Arteta has high hopes for Balogun, and Arsenal will be hoping for a repeat of the last player who went on loan to France.
If Balogun’s form is half as good as Saliba’s has been since his return, Arsenal fans will be over the moon.
Balogun clearly trusts Lacazette a lot, and the Frenchman telling Balogun to leave Arsenal has certainly paid off so far.
