‘I really love him’… Gary Neville says Arsenal have a player who plays like Wayne Rooney

Gary Neville has compared Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus to Wayne Rooney but questioned if he is good enough to be the first-choice at the Emirates.

The Gunners were held to a 1-1 draw against Liverpool at Anfield yesterday. Jesus was very lively early in the game, but he just couldn’t get on the score sheet. Neville believes the Brazilian should be the second-choice at the club.

Gary Neville delivers verdict on Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus

Arsenal signed Gabriel Jesus from Manchester City last year for £45 million (BBC).

The Brazilian gave the Gunners an instant lift. Mikel Arteta’s side became title challengers and pushed City all the way to the end last season.

The one criticism about Jesus, however, is that he doesn’t score enough goals. The 26-year-old has managed just three goals in 13 appearances in the Premier League this season, which is not a great look for a number nine.

Gary Neville raved about Jesus and even compared him to Wayne Rooney and Carlos Tevez, but he feels the Brazilian isn’t good enough to be the number one at a club challenging for the title.

He said on his podcast: “I’ve found myself talking at the end of many Arsenal games this season now about whether Nketiah and Jesus are number one and two strikers in Premier League title-winning sides, or whether they’re actually more two and three strikers and they need that number one.

“I actually love Jesus, I really love him. Honestly, I think he’s a brilliant player, I’d love to play with him. He’s got a bit of Rooney in him, he’s got a bit of Tevez in him, he’s got sort of everything.

“But, he hasn’t got that sort of Instinct in front of goal, and sometimes, he’s everywhere you don’t want him to be.”

Arsenal should consider signing a new striker

Arsenal will be on top of the Premier League table at Christmas, which is a huge positive considering they haven’t been as fluid in attack as they were last season.

That needs to change in the second half of the campaign if they are to go all the way in the title race, and signing a new striker could really help them.

Gabriel Jesus is a tremendous footballer. He gives so much to Arsenal in different areas, but the one thing he can’t do is score 20 or 25 goals a season.

If Arsenal can sign someone who can guarantee that number, they could just become the favourites to win the title this campaign.
