'I love this guy': Pep Guardiola says Arsenal have a truly 'incredible' talent in their ranks

Pep Guardiola has praised Arsenal striker Gabriel Jesus, saying he “was delighted” with him at Manchester City.

The Gunners brought the Brazil international to the Emirates Stadium from the Etihad in the summer.

Jesus left City after the club signed Erling Haaland and Julian Alvarez.

Meanwhile, Arsenal got themselves their top target up front, a world-class, proven striker in the prime of his career.

And Jesus has hit the ground running under Mikel Arteta, with three goals and three assists so far this season.

Guardiola spoke about Jesus on Tuesday afternoon, when asked about the club bringing in Haaland.

The City boss held a pre-match press conference ahead of the Champions League meeting with Borussia Dortmund.

“We had an incredible striker with Gabriel,” Guardiola said, as per Football Daily. “I was delighted with Gabriel, I love this guy, like he knows.”

Goal.com, meanwhile, quotes Guardiola as saying: “Txiki [Begiristain] talked to me and it was a two-second conversation: ‘Okay, fine’.

“What would you say? We had an incredible striker in Gabriel Jesus. But we had the chance to bring [Erling] here so why not?”

“Fits the profile”

In June, Arsenal legend Alan Smith explained why Jesus was swapping City for Arsenal.

He told Sky Sports: “Jesus is somebody who fits the profile, age-wise, and I think he is a player that has got something to prove now.

“He wants to kick on in his career, he wants to play regularly and as a striker that is so important.

“He has played down the right last season more often than he did through the middle.

“Obviously he was in and out of the team, he was a substitute so he wants to be first choice.

“I think it that desire and that hunger is what [Mikel] Arteta is after.

“Players that do want to prove themselves and aren’t coasting.

“Jesus can turn into a very good central striker now that he has joined Arsenal.

“I think that will be the attraction, the fact that a lot of clubs were after him but he might not have played regularly.”
