‘I love this game’, ‘exceptional left foot’: Some Wolves fans react to links with World Cup winner

A number of Wolverhampton Wanderers fans have given their thoughts on the Le10 Sport report linking the Molineux side with Thomas Lemar.

The French outlet claims that Atletico Madrid have decided to part ways with the 24-year-old after two difficult years at the La Liga club.

Wolves are believed to be in concrete negotiations with Atleti over Lemar, with Jorge Mendes potentially facilitating between the two clubs.

Fellow Premier League side Everton were also thought to have been eyeing the Frenchman but have now reportedly dropped their interest.

Lemar enjoyed three superb seasons at Monaco between 2015 and 2018, helping the French top-flight side to the Ligue 1 title and the Champions League semi-finals in 2017.

The following season, he was named in the France squad for the 2018 World Cup finals and made one appearance en route to the trophy, the nation’s second triumph in the competition.

Lemar then joined Atletico for a reported £52.7million after the tournament but he has struggled under Diego Simeone, making 72 appearances and registering just three goals and six assists.

Last season, he made just 12 starts in all competitions – 29 appearances overall – and failed to get a single goal or assist.

Despite his recent struggles, Lemar is clearly a high-calibre creative player who doesn’t look like the right fit for a pragmatic Simeone side, but could well flourish under Nuno Espirito Santo.

Here is what some Wolves fans have made of the speculation:
