‘I love that’: Michail Antonio blown away by what Nottingham Forest fans did after he was subbed off on Sunday
Antonio played for Forest during the 2014-15 campaign before making the switch to East London. And for the first time since his exit, he returned to the City Ground on Sunday.
The Hammers fell to a 1-0 defeat and had a goal ruled out due to the referee judging Antonio to have fouled Orel Mangala in the build-up.
The 32-year-old was subbed off in the second-half and frustrated by his team’s luck in front of goal. But he was delighted with the reception he received from Forest fans.

The striker was asked about apparent boos after Said Benrahma’s goal was disallowed, but he dismissed the claims.
“I don’t think you heard right [on apparent boos] because it definitely wasn’t directed towards me because when I got subbed off, I got a standing ovation as I was walking back round to the bench,” he said.
“Like I’ve said, I’ve always been fond on Forest from my time I was there and I love that the fans showed their appreciation for what I did for them seven, eight years ago.”
Antonio was clearly a popular figure at the City Ground and will be delighted to have been welcomed back with open arms.
Despite only spending one season there, he enjoyed a brilliant campaign for the Reds as he bagged 14 goals and the same amount of assists in the Championship.
West Ham were unlucky not to come away with a result on Sunday after hitting the woodwork twice and missing a penalty. But Antonio will be happy to have received a warm welcome due to his respect for Forest.
