Manchester City star Erling Haaland has made an interesting claim about Manchester United’s supporters.

Erling Haaland probably isn’t the most popular figure on the red side of Manchester. The striker has already caused United’s supporters plenty of misery during his short spell in the Premier League.

In just three appearances against Erik ten Hag’s side, Haaland has netted five times and provided two assists.

During his Manchester Derby debut last season, he bagged a stunning hat trick en route to a 6-3 win at the Etihad Stadium.

But Haaland has admitted that he enjoys ‘joking’ around with Man United supporters when he bumps into them ‘off the pitch. ‘on the street’.

Haaland enjoys ‘banter’ with United fans

Speaking on The Official Man City Podcast, Haaland admitted that he has enjoyed the culture in England so far.

Of course, the Norwegian probably bumps into United fans quite often and he takes pleasure in joking around with City’s neighbours.

“I like it,” Haaland admitted. “I like the vibes and positivity from the fans. When I meet people I joke with them.

“I said it before the banter, not only the English players but the English people in general as well, because I love to joke a bit.

“I like joking with people. I enjoy it. People will see me on the street, United fans or whoever, and we joke a bit with each other. I think it should be like that.”

It’s refreshing to hear the likes of Haaland admitting that he enjoys engaging with the fans, even supporters of his current club’s direct rivals.

There is certainly no love lost between United and City, especially after the latter have emerged as the dominant force in English football in recent years.

But football is built on rivalries and it’s brilliant to hear that Haaland has enjoyed this aspect of his switch to Manchester.

Of course, his father Alfie Haaland also played for City so the Norwegian striker would have been familiar with the rivalry before joining Pep Guardiola’s side.
