Alasdair Gold has said on the Gold and Guest talk Tottenham podcast that he keeps hearing from Spurs sources that the club think it is now too late to find a Harry Kane replacement.
Leaving it late
Kane has been linked with a move away from Tottenham throughout the summer, with Manchester City believed to be keen on the striker.
However, City have still not made a bid of anywhere close to Tottenham’s asking price for the England captain.
And even if they were to make a sizeable offer now, it may not be enough – according to Gold’s update.
That is because Tottenham fear that if they were to sell Kane now they simply wouldn’t have enough time to source an elite level replacement for him.
“If he doesn’t get his move which at the moment is looking the case,” Gold said.
“Another thing I keep hearing out of Spurs is that it is now too late in the window to bring in the [replacement].
“Harry Kane is certainly in the top two strikers in the world, so to replace that with three weeks left of the window, we know you can’t replace him with one person.
“Martinez or Vlahovic are not a Harry Kane replacement. He was the golden boot and playmaker award winner. Has that every happened before?
“If Manchester City really wanted Harry Kane they needed to go in hard right at the start of the summer.”

The impossible task
In truth replacing Kane would be practically impossible for Tottenham, regardless of when they sold the striker.
But with the transfer window edging towards a close, their task would be even harder now.
That being said, Kane still seems to be agitating for a move away.
And it will be interesting to see whether City do step up their bid to sign the 28-year-old, or if they feel he is simply too difficult to take away from Tottenham, over the coming weeks.
