'I just said': Phil Foden shares what he told Grealish on pitch after England beat Denmark
Phil Foden has told the official England podcast that he was telling Aston Villa’s Jack Grealish how shocked he was about his side’s progress on the pitch after England made the Euro 2020 final on Wednesday evening.
Foden was video hugging Villa’s captain after England beat Denmark in a video which was widely shared on social media by ITV.
And Foden has now revealed what he was saying to Grealish in that moment.
“I just said to him I can’t believe we’ve made it to the final and it was nice to share that moment with him, he’s such a special player,” he said.
“It just shows the togetherness the group has.”
Both Grealish and Foden were introduced off the bench in England’s 2-1 win over Denmark.
Gareth Southgate actually subbed Grealish on with the scores locked at 1-1 and then took him off in extra-time, after Harry Kane netted what proved to be the winner for more defensive security.
It remains to be seen whether Grealish or Foden will now start for the final for England against Italy on Sunday.
The duo both made positive impacts from the bench, but Southgate may favour Bukayo Saka, who seems to have made himself England’s first choice down the right flank now for the added defensive security to brings to the team.
