BBC pundit Ian Wright has admitted he is surprised that Tottenham Hotspur have not signed a creative midfielder this summer.
On the Kelly and Wrighty Show, the former Arsenal striker said he thought something had changed at Spurs under Antonio Conte.
He admitted he had been impressed by Tottenham’s transfer business but feels they still need a midfield playmaker.
There were links with a swoop to bring Christian Eriksen back to north London, but he has since joined Manchester United on a free transfer.

Wright says Tottenham need a creative midfielder
Wright said: “I have to say with Spurs, what I was quite impressed with was the way they did the business very early.
“Something has changed at Spurs. It’s not how it was before.
“I am still surprised I haven’t seen somebody in midfield who is a bit more creative.
“Because you feel like if people start to shut down the full-backs you will stop a lot of what Tottenham do.”

The issue for Tottenham is that Conte prefers to play with a 3-4-3 system, and the two central midfielders have to be able to do their share of defensive work.
Would somebody like Eriksen be able to do the business as one of the central midfield two in that system?
Perhaps against certain opponents, and Tottenham have tried to give themselves options all over the pitch with their business.
Maybe someone like Youri Tielemans would do the trick, but it seems that nothing is advanced with any midfield target right now.
