‘I have got to say…Chris Sutton gives his honest verdict after Declan Rice’s celebration vs West Ham

It felt almost inevitable yesterday as Declan Rice fired in a stunning goal to help Arsenal see off West Ham United on Super Sunday.

The Gunners were miles ahead of the Hammers on the day and simply destroyed David Moyes’ side with a ruthless show of finishing and set-piece prowess.

Mikel Arteta’s side just had way too much on the day while for West Ham, it was the worst possible time to bring their worst performance of the season.

Of course, the focus in the game from many was on Rice and his return to the Hammers. And he didn’t disappoint either, putting in a superb performance capped off by a stunning strike.

Rice’s goal was followed by a mellow celebration as he looked almost embarrassed to have netted.

And speaking on the the It’s All Kicking Off Podcast, Chris Sutton has sung the praises of Rice for what Sutton described as showing a ‘bit of class’ on the day.

“I have got to say I thought Declan Rice showed great class. The way he reacted. Wonderful goal that he scored but a bit of respect there. I like that. I thought he got it spot on. He was semi excited but he was saying to West Ham he enjoyed his time there. Bit of class. I liked that,” Sutton said.

Declan Rice a class act on and off the pitch

It was quite fitting really that Rice went on to score one of the best goals he’s ever scored against his former team.

But as Sutton says, he showed what he is all about with his celebration and actions after the goal.

Sure, some will argue that not celebrating almost makes more of a meal of things. But Rice did in a way that was sincere and he genuinely looked a bit overwhelmed to have scored in the way he did.

Declan Rice has been a class act all season and all yesterday did was cement that opinion around him.
