'I draw the line at that': Roy Keane not having what he's hearing about Grealish now he's left Aston Villa
Roy Keane and Gary Neville have disagreed about Jack Grealish after his move to Manchester City from Aston Villa on The Overlap.
Neville claimed that Grealish could well be transformed as a player under Pep Guardiola’s influence.
The £100 million playmaker has broken through as a hugely creative influence, who enjoys having the ball at his feet.
But Neville suggested that he could see Grealish as a tough tackler in just 18 months’ time.
“In two years time I think you could easily be watching him and he could be a tackler and sprinting back, or he could be someone who is sprinting into the box getting 15 or 20 goals a season,” he argued.
That comment was quickly refuted by Roy Keane, who said: “No, I draw the line at that.”
“When you watch De Bruyne and Silva defend two or three seasons ago it was unbelievable,” Neville retorted.
“It wouldn’t surprise me if in a year and a half’s time we’re looking at him sprinting back harder than anybody bceause Pep’s got it into him that’s part of the game and you have to do all that.”
And Keane had the final say. “Yeah, I get all that,” he added. “But I still don’t know if he’s a tackler. I don’t think so.”
Whether Grealish does become a more defensive minded midfielder in time remains to be seen.
But it is likely that Grealish will have to adapt to nail down a place in Guardiola’s side.
Grealish doesn’t always release the ball as quickly as Guardiola likes, and he will have to work on the defensive side of his game – especially if he is deployed in a central midfield position.
His arrival at City further strengthens their creative options though.
And Guardiola’s side have only become stronger favourites to win the Premier League since the arrival of the most expensive English player of all time.
