‘I don’t trust them’… Pundit predicts whether Arsenal or Bayern Munich will win in the Champions League

Alejandro Moreno has shared his prediction for the Champions League quarter-final tie between Arsenal and Bayern Munich – and it is potentially one of the least convincing cases you will probably see.

The Gunners will meet Thomas Tuchel‘s side for a place in the semi-final of the competition. Arsenal booked their spot after beating Porto on penalties at the Emirates earlier this month.

Despite Mikel Arteta‘s side only making their return to Europe’s top table this season after several years away, they appeared to go into the quarter-final draw as one of the favourites, behind the likes of Manchester City and Real Madrid.

Their defeat to Porto in the first-leg was a real surprise. But the heroics of Martin Odegaard in the second-leg helped them just about edge the tie. It was another remarkable captain’s performance from the Norwegian.

Pundit predicts winner from Arsenal vs Bayern Munich tie in the Champions League

Arsenal’s reward for winning their last-16 clash was being drawn with Bayern. Of course, the Gunners have suffered a couple of extremely painful defeats at the hands of the Bavarian giants over the last decade.

This is a very different Arsenal. And this, actually, is a very different Bayern, with Tuchel’s side looking set to miss out on winning the Bundesliga title this year.

Alejandro Moreno appeared to acknowledge that fact on ESPN when he was asked about who was going through. However, the retired forward – perhaps surprisingly – opted to pick Bayern.

“Everything suggests that it should be and would be Arsenal, because Arsenal will exploit the frailties of Bayern Munich. I’m going to say Bayern Munich,” he said.

“Honestly, I’m going to go Bayern Munich. And that’s because, I find that Bayern Munich, on the individual level can really hurt Arsenal. And a good game, and I know this is a lot to ask for, a good game, an explosive game from Leroy Sane can make a difference. Jamal Musiala, the same. And particularly, Harry Kane. What is the one argument that we have against Arsenal time and time again? They don’t have a number nine, they don’t have a proven goalscorer. Well, Bayern Munich do.

“And you would imagine that this would be the sort of environment which that proven number nine would make a difference. I’m going to take Bayern Munich just, even though I don’t trust them in the midfield, and I don’t trust them in the backline, and I don’t trust them overall, I’m going to go Bayern Munich.”

Mikel Arteta’s men still finding their feet on Europe’s biggest stage

In Moreno’s defence, this Bayern side are a lot more experienced at this stage of the competition. Arsenal are still growing.

They are here to stay. However, they did fall away in the Premier League title race last year, which shows that they are learning. The early signs suggest that they are determined to clear that same hurdle this year.

Bayern do have outstanding players. However, they also lost the first-leg of their last 16 tie. So there is little reason for Arsenal to fear them.

It is definitely not going to be easy for the Gunners. But you do get the feeling that Bayern are going to have to be at something like their very best if they are going to reach the last four.
