Fabrizio Romano has suggested that Antonio Conte will leave Tottenham Hotspur if Daniel Levy fails to keep hold of Harry Kane beyond the end of this season.

The Englishman’s controversial interview with Gary Neville last summer gave rise to a huge transfer saga. Kane made it clear that he wanted to leave and Manchester City quickly became the frontrunners for his signature.

Kane would’ve loved a move to the Etihad to work under Pep Guardiola as he’s almost guaranteed to win trophies regularly there. He was open to a switch but Levy had other ideas.

The Spurs chairman made it clear that Kane was going nowhere and he won that battle. The saga is expected to unfold in a few months again but there’s something so much bigger on the line this time around.

Fabrizio Romano: Antonio Conte staying at Tottenham depends on Harry Kane

Conte has only been at Tottenham for about five months now and it has to be said that he has been far from happy with what he has seen at the club – both on the pitch and in the transfer market.

The Italian’s rant following the game against Burnley earlier this year convinced many people that he would be on his way out, but he’s still at the helm in North London and that’s unlikely to change until the end of the season.

However, the summer transfer window will be the big one for Tottenham as everybody knows that Conte will be a furious man if he doesn’t get what he wants.

If Romano is to be believed, it’s not just about new signings, it’s about keeping hold of Harry Kane as well.

Here’s what the journalist said:

Romano told The United Stand yesterday: “If Antonio Conte will stay at Tottenham, it is because he knows that Harry Kane will stay at Tottenham.

“He wants to make sure that Harry Kane will be a key part of the Tottenham project. I don’t see Antonio Conte accepting to stay at Tottenham without Harry Kane. So, Conte and Kane’s futures are linked. So, it’s going to be an important point for Harry Kane.

“Of course, Manchester United have an interest in Kane since a long time, they’ve wanted this player since many, many years. But, it’s not going to be easy with Tottenham and not going to be easy with Conte.

“I’m not sure it’s easy (for Manchester United) to make Kane the main target.”
