Leicester City ace Jamie Vardy has been praised by former Premier League forward and Optus Sport pundit Michael Bridges for his heroics this season and over the past year.

The 33-year-old is in prolific form, having netted nine goals in just eight appearances in all competitions this term, including eight in seven Premier League games.

Last season, meanwhile, Vardy won the Premier League Golden Boot award for topping the goalscoring charts with 23 goals, one ahead of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Danny Ings.

In conversation with Optus Sport’s Gegenpod, Bridges named his top five Premier League players so far this season and the Foxes ace was in third place, behind Harry Kane and Jack Grealish.

“Eight goals already. Golden Boot last year. Benjamin Button. I don’t know how he does it,” said the former Sunderland and Leeds ace.

“He seems to get quicker as he gets older. We’ve seen players like Sheringham and Shearer over the years adapt their game to continue playing at an older age, but Vardy doesn’t lose his pace.”

As outfield players progress into their mid-30s, they’re often considered to be in the twilight of their careers and sometimes even deemed to be on the wane.

However, this is definitely not the case with Vardy, who is indeed getting better with age and helping to keep Leicester in the upper echelons of the table.

The £140,000-a-week ace has some tough competition for the Golden Boot this year but, with the Foxes in such good form, both are bound to be up there in the table and in the goalscoring rankings.
