‘I don't know’: 29-year-old admits he's not sure if Tottenham will give him new contract, expires in two years time
Lucas Moura has admitted he’s not sure whether Tottenham Hotspur will offer him a new contract.
As per Hayter’s, Lucas addressed his future in an interview ahead of the start of the forthcoming campaign, Antonio Conte’s first full season in charge.
The 29-year-old said he wants to return to his native Brazil at one point before the end of his career, but it is not clear when that will be.
He also said it is far from certain that Spurs will want to extend his stay at the club; he currently has two years remaining on his contract.
Lucas speaks out on chances of new Tottenham contract
Speaking about his future, Lucas said: “I turn 30 in August, but I feel very good mentally and physically.
“I’m very happy at Tottenham. I love the club, the fans and I love everyone who works in the club.
“But of course I have the plan to go back to Brazil one day. I have one more year on my contract, maybe two. But I don’t know if the club will want me to sign another contract.
“I am happy here. I just want to have the best season this season and win trophies, because my objective here since the first day I arrived at the club, and I think this season I can achieve this. Then we will see next season what is the desire of the club.”
Lucas is reaching the age and point in his career where it looks like his next contract could be his last big one.
He may well decide to extend his stay at Tottenham, and then try and move back to Brazil once that contract runs out.
That said, he seems open to the idea that Spurs will not want to keep him beyond the conclusion of his current deal, but that looks like an issue for 12 months time.
