‘I don’t get this’: Chris Sutton left stunned by what Leeds United fans have been doing at matches recently

The atmosphere at Leeds United’s last home game was not a pleasant one for manager Jesse Marsch.

His side had just been beaten 3-2 by newly promoted Fulham and they now find themselves in the relegation zone.

Chris Sutton was speaking on BBC 5 Live’s The Monday Night Club, and talked about what was going on at Elland Road.

Sutton said he didn’t understand why Leeds fans were singing former manager Marcelo Bielsa’s name.

Bielsa left the club towards the end of last season with the club on a horrendous run of form.

His thin squad was hampered by injuries and relegation was looming.

The club had to make the decision to remove the incredibly popular manager and appoint Marsch.

The former RB Leipzig boss kept Leeds up on the final day, but is starting to struggle now.

TalkSPORT’s Simon Jordan has predicted Marsch could now be sacked very soon if results don’t turn around.

Sutton stunned Leeds fans are signing Bielsa’s name

The former Celtic striker was asked about Marsch’s chances of survival at Leeds.

“What really goes against him and I don’t get this for one moment is the Leeds fans singing Bielsa’s name,” Sutton said.

“I mean Bielsa has gone, He was going to take Leeds down last season.

“Marsch doesn’t get the credit he deserves for keeping Leeds in the Premier League.

“They started the season brilliantly and even as of late they had a good performance against Arsenal and a really strong performance in the first half against Crystal Palace.

“But I just don’t think he’s going to get an opportunity.

“And I use Aston Villa as an example, because when the fan base turns, in the numbers it did at Villa and it looks like it’s getting really toxic at Leeds he’s not going to get long.

“Liverpool next – tough fixture. Then Bournemouth at home. Imagine if Leeds don’t beat Bournemouth at Elland Road. There’s trouble.”

Marsch was seen at the full-time whistle against Fulham applauding the fans, but was met with a mixed reaction.

Leeds have three league games left before the World Cup, and the pressure will be on Marsch to achieve at least one good result in that time.

Leeds fans singing Bielsa’s name is something any Leeds manager in the near future will have to put up with.

His impact at the club was extraordinary, finally helping them return to the Premier League.

Marsch will be hoping he’s the person trusted to keep them there, but time might be running out now for the American.
