Glenn Hoddle has told the London Evening Standard that he cannot agree with those who claim that Tottenham Hotspur have a great squad, insisting that some of the players are not good enough.
Spurs are coming to terms with their agonising defeat in the Carabao Cup final on Sunday. A late Aymeric Laporte header proved to be the difference as Manchester City retained their trophy.

In truth, Ryan Mason’s men struggled to lay a glove on the Premier League leaders. And it appears that Hoddle would not have been surprised by how the game played out.
The Spurs legend insisted that the time has now come for the club to conduct a significant overhaul of the team, with several simply not up to the task.

“There has got to be a reconstruction of the squad,” he told the London Evening Standard. “I hear ‘Tottenham have a great squad’, but I do not get that. They have got a couple of great players, but the squad is nowhere near deep enough and there are players there who are just not good enough if you want to get into the Champions League.
“No disrespect, there are players there who are average Premier League players.”
It does appear that Tottenham missed the boat to capitalise on their progress when Mauricio Pochettino was in charge.
Spurs reached the Champions League final. And they were spoken about as potential title contenders over a number of years.
But they did not take the opportunity to build on that. And it now appears that the next manager has a huge job on their hands.
There is a lot of potential and quality amongst the squad. But few can argue that Hoddle is wrong to suggest that a lot needs to change.
