'I didn't really expect it': Bruno Guimaraes shares what's shocked him since he signed for Newcastle

Newcastle United midfielder Bruno Guimaraes has told the club’s media team how much he loves the Magpies fanbase.

The Newcastle board brought the Brazil international to St James’ Park during the January transfer window.

Guimaraes’ arrival was met by lots of fanfare on Tyneside, given the player’s quality and high profile.

The 24-year-old has already exceeded expectations at Newcastle, playing a big role in the club’s top-flight survival battle.

Eddie Howe used Bruno sparingly at first, as he acclimatised to a new league and life in a new country.

But now, the former Lyon man is a regular starter for Newcastle, and has already contributed three goals.

He scored a crucial brace against Leicester last week which gave the Magpies a 2-1 win.

And on Wednesday, in the 1-0 win over Crystal Palace, he contributed yet again, assisting Miguel Almiron’s goal.

It’s been a remarkable transformation for the Magpies, who looked Championship-bound back in January.

Guimaraes has certainly played his part in this and will be a focal point as the club looks to kick on next season.

“They ask for a photo, they shout my name”

Guimaraes spoke to Newcastle’s official matchday programme ahead of Wednesday’s meeting with Palace.

He revealed how touched he has been by the reception he has received from the club’s supporters.

“I didn’t really expect it – I suppose a bit, but not as much as it’s been.

“The affection the fans have for me is incredible. I love the fans.

“Whenever I’m out on the street, they ask for a photo, they shout my name, and I do feel a bit embarrassed at times!
