'I didn't know that': Takehiro Tomiyasu stunned after hearing bad news about 25-year-old Arsenal player

Takehiro Tomiyasu was left stunned after hearing the bad news about Arsenal star Gabriel Jesus’ recent injury.

Jesus was handed his first start at this year’s World Cup for Brazil against Cameroon last week but was forced off with a knee injury around the hour mark.

It seemed like it was nothing too serious at the time but Mikel Arteta will now be sweating over the 25-year-old’s fitness.

Jesus has now headed back to north London and will not feature for the rest of the World Cup, while Sport TV – via the Daily Mail – reports he could be out for around three months.

But Tomiyasu wasn’t even aware that his teammate had picked up an injury before being told by a reporter.

Tomiyasu stunned after Jesus news

Tomiyasu admitted to Gekisaka video that he was unaware that Jesus had picked up a knee injury against Cameroon.

“Has [Gabriel Jesus] got injured? Jesus? Oh, I didn’t know that. Really?,” he said.

“Because I only watched the first-half [Brazil vs Cameroon] so he got injured in the second-half? Is it bad?”

The Japanese international was then told that Jesus has been ruled out of the rest of the World Cup.

He responded: “It’s a shame because obviously playing in a World Cup is a big dream for us, for every football player.

“So I’m sorry for him, but hopefully he will be back soon.”

Tomiyasu is part of the Japanese side that surprisingly made it through the group stages at the expense of Germany. Japan managed to beat both Spain and Hansi Flick’s side to set-up a last-16 clash against Croatia.

While Brazil made it through their group comfortably, Jesus will now be forced to watch Tite’s men from England.

Mikel Arteta will be hoping for some positive news over the Brazilian as Arsenal look slightly light in terms of back-up options.

Eddie Nketiah proved that he can be a useful squad player last season but there will be a significant drop-off in quality while Jesus is sidelined.
