Leeds United fans may be surprised to know that there is one statistic this season Marcelo Bielsa claimed to be unaware of – before today, that is.
Bielsa has left supporters and pundits spellbound during his time at Elland Road with his meticulous preparation. No manager seems to take the notion of leaving no stone unturned so seriously.

However, it seems that he did learn something in his press conference ahead of Monday’s clash with Liverpool.
Bielsa was asked about Leeds being the league’s most prolific goalscorers from outside the penalty box this season, and whether shooting from further out was something that he encouraged.

“Sincerely, I did not know this,” he said, as reported by Leeds Live. “It comes to my attention. Throughout the week, we insist a lot on the game on the wings. I would adhere those to the influence and characteristics of the players in the centre of the pitch.”
In truth, it is difficult to imagine Bielsa not knowing about that particular statistic. As noted by The Athletic last year, Bielsa once included eight pages on a third-choice goalkeeper in his analysis of a Championship rival.
Perhaps, he was unaware that Leeds led the way in the Premier League. But even that idea seems farfetched in all honestly.
Both of Stuart Dallas’s goals at the weekend came from just outside the area.
So while Leeds invited Manchester City to consider shooting from further out by leaving them with plenty of space in central areas once the Whites were done to 10 men on Saturday, it may not be the best idea for opponents to do the same when it is Leeds on the attack.
