'I could see happening': Journalist thinks £40m star linked with Arsenal is likely to join Liverpool
Liverpool and Arsenal are reportedly both in the race to sign Yves Bissouma.
But journalist Neil Jones reckons the 24-year-old is the player most likely to join Jurgen Klopp’s Reds this summer.
In June, football.london reported that Bissouma has instructed his agent to try and get him to Arsenal.
The same outlet claimed in January that the Gunners had made contact with the player’s camp.
That report also suggested Bissouma would choose Arsenal over any other Premier League club if they came in for him.
But with Liverpool losing Georginio Wijnaldum on a free transfer, they’re now being linked with the Brighton midfielder (Liverpool Echo).
The Athletic claimed in April that Bissouma had a £40million price tag.
“I think there’s interest there”
Speaking on The Redmen TV YouTube channel, Jones was asked to name the player he thought was the most likely to join the Reds.
He replied: “One player, well I was asked this before, and I said Bissouma is one that I could see happening.
“I know there has been a bit of denial from some sources around Liverpool, but I think there’s interest there and he certainly fits the bill.”
When asked who he’d stake a fiver on in terms of a player joining Liverpool, Jones replied: “A fiver? Bissouma, yeah I think.
“Only a fiver like, I’m not going any higher! But yeah, it probably would be Bissouma.
“I can’t see how they don’t sign a midfielder personally, I don’t see how you can lose Wijnaldum and say that the squad can cover that because the squad has been there.”
Liverpool and Arsenal eyeing “exceptional” player?
Bissouma looked a cut above for the Seagulls last season, showing quality and consistency.
He made 39 appearances in all competitions, of which 36 came in the Premier League.
Bissouma’s Whoscored ratings for 2020-21 are impressive – 7.01 from 31 appearances in CM and 6.99 from four at DMC.
And one of the Malian’s displays, in the 0-0 draw with Everton in April, prompted this compliment from Gary Lineker.
