'I can't wait', 'come on': Some Spurs fans buzzing over Friday news

A number of Spurs fans have welcomed Steven Bergwijn’s return to fitness and availability for Sunday’s trip to Newcastle.

The Netherlands international started Tottenham’s first three Premier League games of the 2020-21 season.

However, an ankle injury left Bergwijn on the sidelines for the next four top-flight games.

Speaking ahead of Sunday’s trip to Newcastle, Nuno was able to share some good news about the 24-year-old.

What Has Gone RIGHT At West Ham United?

“He joined us yesterday,” he told football.london.

“He is totally integrated in the group. He did well. No pain and now about getting back to his highest levels of fitness.”

Asked if Bergwijn could be available for Newcastle, Nuno said: “We don’t know. First of all, everybody together. Then we’ll see.”

Some Spurs fans welcomed this update:

Bergwijn joined Tottenham for around £27million in January 2020 and hit the ground running in north London.

He scored on his debut as Spurs ran out 2-0 winners at Manchester City in February last year.

However, Bergwijn was largely reduced to substitute appearances during his first full season in the Premier League.

To date, he has made 56 competitive senior appearances for Spurs.
