Jamie Carragher has claimed he doesn’t believe the rumours linking Tottenham with Manchester City forward Raheem Sterling.
The Athletic claims that Sterling is one of several Man City players that could be used as a makeweight in a deal to sign Tottenham’s Harry Kane this month.
It is understood that City told Spurs any deal for Kane would need to be cash plus a player in a part-exchange transfer.
The report names Sterling, Gabriel Jesus, Bernardo Silva, Aymeric Laporte and Riyad Mahrez as potential makeweights.
Sterling had a quiet end to the 2020/21 season with Man City, but still ended up with 14 goals and 12 assists in all competitions.
In addition, the £49million winger has scored two goals in three appearances so far at Euro 2020 with England.
Carragher has responded to the Sterling links by claiming he can’t picture him joining Spurs.
“I can’t believe I have read some reports suggesting he could be a makeweight in a deal to take Kane to City. With respect, do people think Sterling is at a point in his career where he would join Spurs? Are they serious? If he was available, top Champions League clubs would be queuing up for him,” Carragher wrote for The Telegraph.

Sterling to Tottenham would be backwards step for him
Spurs are yet to appoint a manager. Therefore, all this transfer talks right now around the north London club seems a little crazy.
The Kane rumours are still in full flow though this summer, with the claim now that Man City could try offer players as part of a deal.
Sterling, 26, would be making a step down if he left the Etihad Stadium for Spurs.
The English speedster is dynamite for Pep Guardiola’s side when he’s form. His record of 114 goals in 292 appearances for Man City speaks for itself.
