Ian Wright was left shocked by Leeds United’s Kalvin Phillips during the England game last night.
Shocked
Phillips was again selected to start for England and had a fairly solid game.
However, when the Leeds man was presented with an opportunity to set Harry Kane up, he chose the wrong option.
With Kane bursting through the middle unmarked, Phillips instead passed the ball out wide to Raheem Sterling.
The Manchester City winger was eventually crowded out as the counter attack chance led to nothing.
And Wright said: “This for me, he has to see this. He’s played safe here. He has to play Harry Kane here. I can’t believe he’s not played Harry Kane through.”
Lack of creativity?
If there has been one criticism of Declan Rice and Phillips partnership at England level it is that they can lack creativity sometimes.
Gareth Southgate clearly trusts the pair though, as they both offer England great defensive steel.

The Three Lions have had a wonderful defensive record, although they couldn’t quite keep another clean sheet last night.
Poland eventually scored in the last minute to claim a 1-1 draw in the contest.
England are unlikely to be too disheartened by that fact though, as they are still well on course to qualify for the World Cup.
