Erik ten Hag may well be out of a job this summer.

The Dutchman isn’t doing the best of jobs at Manchester United, and he may well be on the scrap heap come the end of the season.

So, if Ten Hag is to leave Old Trafford, who’s going to come in?

Well, there are a number of managers who are likely to be available heading into the summer from Thomas Tuchel to Xavi.

However, speaking on the Premier League All Access Podcast, Scott Minto has tipped up another potential candidate.

Indeed, Minto says that he could genuinely see Gareth Southgate getting the United job come the end of the season.

Gareth Southgate could get the Man Utd job

Minto spoke about the England manager.

“No I don’t think it’s inspiring. I actually thought a couple of months ago before Bayern Munich said he wouldn’t be there beyond this season, I thought Thomas Tuchel is that statesmanlike figure that Man United need. Do you get in someone like Gareth Southgate who will be that diplomat and put his arm around players. If he is close to Dave Brailsford then I can honestly see that happening. I think this is the summer we win a major tournament, and if he wants to sign off his stock will never be higher, so Gareth is an fascinating one,” Minto said.

Risky

Hiring Southgate would be a huge risk.

Southgate has done a decent enough job in international management over the past few years, but managing internationally and managing at club level are two completely different things.

Let’s not forget, Southgate has managed in the Premier League before with Middlesborough, and, ultimately, that ended up with relegation.

Southgate could well be the solution to United’s problems. After all, he was the unlikely solution to England’s issues, but, given his CV when it comes to club management, we have to say this would be a serious risk.
