'I believe': Robert Earnshaw shares where he thinks Forest are going to finish in the PL this season
Nottingham Forest have wasted no time in the summer transfer market as they’ve completed 11 signings to improve Steve Cooper’s squad ahead of the season.
And former Forest striker Robert Earnshaw thinks their strategy will work as he’s tipped them to stay in the Premier League this season.
The Reds have shown real ambition in recent weeks after smashing their record transfer fee to bring in Taiwo Awoniyi from Union Berlin for £17.5 million (Sky Sports).
Cooper has also brought in a real coup in former Manchester United man Jesse Lingard and Earnshaw thinks Forest will finish above the relegation spots as a result.
Earnshaw thinks Forest will avoid relegation
He said: “Are they going to stay up? For me, right now I think the businesses they’ve done, I believe that they are going to stay up. I think they are in a good, good position.
“Mr Cooper, as I call him, I think he’s done very, very well. One of the most impressive years I’ve seen from a manager. I think going to the Premier League he’s going to enjoy it even more. I believe they are going to stay up.”
The former Derby County striker is hoping to see Cooper adopt an attacking style this season, in a similar way to Brentford boss Thomas Frank.
“I hope they can approach it with attack football, not defensive, stay at home,” he added.
“Because I know in the PL you can’t be very, very safe. You could go all out.
“Brentford I watched last year, had an impressive year and stayed in the Premier League. You’ve got to approach it that way.”
Earnshaw spent three seasons at the City Ground and made 110 appearances for the club after making the switch from their Midlands rivals, Derby.
TBR’s View: Forest have had a brilliant summer but Cooper has work to do
Forest have undoubtedly shown real ambition and improved Cooper’s squad this summer. But the Welsh boss has plenty of work to do in order to get the new signings up to speed.
In the past, Fulham have shown that making too many signings can have a negative impact on the team as players need time to gel together.
But Cooper has shown he excels at this as Forest also made plenty of new signings last summer before his arrival at the club.
