‘I appreciate it’: Arsenal-linked midfield captain ‘everyone’ wants is flattered by speculation

Reported Arsenal target Sivert Mannsverk says he appreciates being linked with other clubs, but has played down the prospect of moving this month.

La Lazio Siamo Noi reported this week that the Serie A giants were facing competition from Arsenal, Brighton and Aston Villa for the 18-year-old Sogndal midfielder’s services.

Calciomercato, meanwhile, claimed that Mannsverk is also a target for Everton, Inter Milan, Ajax and Groningen.

Despite his young years, the Norwegian already captains his team, which plays in the country’s second division, and is closing in on 50 competitive appearances.

A versatile midfielder with a decent goal and assist tally, it’s little surprise Mannsverk has suitors interested in his signature.

However, he seems happy where he is at this moment in time, despite being sought after by “everyone”, according to Nettavisen.

“Fortunately, I have people around me who allow me to focus on other things,” Mannsverk told the Norwegian outlet.

“I’m from a small place, and do not like to talk myself so loudly.

“When people call me (and express an interest), I appreciate it, but now there has been a lot of talk about rumours.

“I want to give back what Sogndal has given to me.

“It is the club that decides (whether I stay or go), and then I think I have a contract until 2022.”

TBR View:

Norway is a hotbed of football talent at present, with the likes of Martin Odegaard – who is reportedly close to joining Arsenal – and Erling Haaland making waves in the game.

It’s unsurprising that clubs are now seemingly looking at another talent who has achieved so much in the game at such a young age.

However, Mannsverk is right to play down speculation out of respect to his club, and perhaps it’s worth for him to stay put for the time being to develop his game further.
