Former Arsenal midfielder Emmanuel Petit has revealed that he is losing interest in the club following an embarrassing loss against Brentford.

Speaking to French outlet RMC via Football London, the Highbury hero claimed that Arsenal currently doesn’t make him feel anything.

Petit also said that the same weaknesses have remained at Arsenal over the past few years. The Gunners lost 2-0 against newly-promoted side Brentford in the opening game of the Premier League season.

Following on from a campaign where Arsenal finished eighth, it was the worst possible start for Mikel Arteta’s side.

Although Arsenal have spent big in the transfer window, the north London side looked the same as they did last season. With the play in the final third yielding little creativity or attacking intent.

And Petit is beginning to lose interest in the Gunners. The former France international said: “Little by little I am losing interest in Arsenal. With this way of playing it does not generate any emotion to see their games.

“They give me no emotions. And I find that I don’t get the trajectory the team have taken in the last few years. It started in the last few years of Arsene Wenger’s management and it has continued with his successors.”

With Arsenal facing Chelsea and Manchester City next in the Premier League, the Gunners could be in deep trouble just three league games into the new season.

However, with new signings likely to come in before the end of the window, Arteta has the tools needed to regain confidence in the side in Petit, as well as other supporters who have lost hope in the club.
