Liverpool star Diogo Jota has provided an update on his recovery from injury, telling the Reds matchday programme – via Goal.com – that he’s “doing well” and hopes to be back “as soon as possible”.

The 24-year-old hit the ground running at Anfield following his £41million move from Wolves in September, registering nine goals in 17 competitive appearances for the Reds.

Jota’s heroics gave Jurgen Klopp a positive selection headache in terms of his front line, which already boasts the superb Sadio Mane, Roberto Firmino and Mohamed Salah.

However, a knee injury suffered during the Champions League game against Midtjylland in early December has since ruled the Portugal international out of action.

Jota was initially set to be ruled out for two months, but he’s progressing well and could be back sooner than expected – potentially before the end of January, according to the Daily Mail.

On the Liverpool matchday programme ahead of Monday’s trip to Southampton, Jota also spoke of his desire to become a “big influence” at Anfield.

“Knee injuries are always complicated so we cannot rush things, but I am doing well and I will be back on the field as soon as possible,” said the former Wolves ace.

“When I’m fit I know I’ll give my best in each training session to give myself a chance of playing.

“In Portugal they used to say the hardest thing is not to arrive but to stay there. So that of course is my target.

“Now that I have achieved a move to Liverpool I want to be a big influence in this club and that’s what I try to do every day.”

In football, it’s hard to improve a seemingly perfect area of a team, but credit to Klopp as he has made his front line even stronger.

Jota has hit the ground running at Liverpool and, as well as his heroics off the pitch, his attitude is spot on, as shown by his matchday programme comments – he’ll go far at Anfield.
