‘Hurry back’: Some Rangers fans react as club shares training-ground photo of recovering player

Some Glasgow Rangers fans have taken to Twitter to praise Ibrox forward Jermain Defoe after the club shared a photo of him in training.

The 37-year-old suffered a hamstring injury during Rangers’ pre-season win over Motherwell on 22 July and has been sidelined since.

Defoe limped out of action in the second half of the Gers’ 4-0 win having come on to replace Alfredo Morelos just over 20 minutes earlier.

His absence briefly left Rangers facing a potential crisis up front, with Morelos also being heavily linked with a departure from Ibrox during that time.

Since then, the Light Blues have signed two strikers, bringing in Kemar Roofe from Belgian giants Anderlecht and Cedric Itten from Swiss side St Gallen.

In addition, speculation on Morelos’ future has eased, with Lille president Gerard Lopez telling talkSPORT his club were hitting the pause button on their pursuit.

However, with the Colombian ace failing to find the net in his last two games, Roofe needing to get fully match-fit and Itten still familiarising himself with the new league, Defoe’s return is long-awaited by some Bears.

And when Rangers shared a photo of Defoe in training, complete with the caption “on the road to recovery”, it went down well with some fans:

Earlier in the day, Steven Gerrard confirmed to the Rangers media team that Defoe isn’t expected to be back in action until after the international break.
