Hugo Lloris's statistic proves Tottenham 'keeper was best in England last season
Hugo Lloris is an exceptional goalkeeper who has bailed Spurs out on many an occasion.
The Frenchman has been one of the Premier League’s best ‘keepers for a number of years.
Now, though, it has been proved that the Spurs man was the best shot-stopper last season.
When looking at the goals prevented metric, used to work out how a goalkeeper is performing against the xG they face, Lloris came out on top (The Athletic).
Lloris’s figure of conceding 5.4 goals less than expected is an impressive one, with no other goalkeeper in the Premier League being able to top this.
That is certainly some feat, especially with the likes of Alisson Becker, Ederson Moraes, Kasper Schmeichel, Edouard Mendy and David De Gea plying their trade in England.
At Tottenham, there is finally some strong competition for Lloris now too.
The Lilywhites signed Pierluigi Gollini on a loan deal with an option to buy from Atalanta over the summer (BBC).
The Italian starred last season, gaining Champions League experience between the sticks.
However, he will certainly have to do a lot to replace the experienced Tottenham skipper.
Lloris has certainly proven to be worth his salt over his nine long years at the club.
This season alone has seen the Frenchman record three clean sheets in three Premier League games, putting him on the path to bettering the 12 he managed last season (Transfermarkt).
You certainly wouldn’t bet against Lloris managing that either.
The World Cup winning skipper is an imperious figure between the posts and he has certainly made Tottenham fans feel comfortable since the start of last season.
There will be many who will argue that other goalkeepers are clear of the Frenchman.
However, after his shot-stopping performances last season, the stats show that no ‘keeper outperformed his goals prevented stat.
