Hugo Lloris has opened up on what he found difficult during the final six months of his time at Tottenham.

The 37-year-old made the comments when speaking to The Athletic.

So, what did Hugo Lloris say about Tottenham? Let’s take a look…

Well, the France international had been No.1 for almost the entirety of his 12 years in N17.

However – after a wobbly 2022/23 campaign – Lloris spent the final six months of his Tottenham career on the bench behind Guglielmo Vicario, before joining Los Angeles FC in January.

Speaking about his time playing No.2 to the Italian, Lloris said: “Let’s be honest, it was a difficult period over the last six months. When you are a professional footballer, you wake up in the morning and set goals and targets. For the past six months, I have been training every day without a proper goal, and I have missed the competition a lot.

“At the same time, I have been trying to take it positively. I spent more time with the staff and my family and organised my life for the future. I didn’t want to waste time because I had two injuries in the first half of 2023, so I trained well.”

Lloris also shared some insight about what life under Ange Postecoglou is like.

The Frenchman added: “It was really interesting to be inside of the new Tottenham. I was part of every training session and analysis before and after the game. For my football knowledge, there was so much I could add. Ange has his own vision and football approach, and it was really interesting to see it closely.”

Tottenham did well to replace Hugo Lloris

Fielding the same No.1 for 12 years is a rarity in modern day football, so Tottenham had a tough task in finding someone as reliable as Lloris was for most of that time.

However, those on the recruitment team truly struck gold in finding Vicario for just £17m.

The Spurs No.13 has become an immediate fan favourite in north London, and at the age of just 27, he could also spend a decade in between the sticks at Tottenham.
