Hugo Lloris discusses Tottenham future, expects talks with Antonio Conte

Hugo Lloris has told a press conference on Sunday – as per Le10Sport – that he is expecting to stage Tottenham contract talks sooner rather than later.

Lloris, 34, is out of contract at the end of the season. The 2018 World Cup winner will have approached a decade between the sticks at Spurs by then.

Joining the club in 2012 from Lyon, Lloris has gone on to clock up an enormous 385 appearances for Spurs – keeping 130 clean sheets.

But his £100,000-a-week (Spotrac) contract is coming to and end. From January 1, non-English sides can approach him on a free, pre-contract deal.

That could be an interesting avenue for clubs from France, who have been linked with Lloris. Speaking on Sunday, though, Lloris might want to stay.

He says he expects to sit down and thrash out talks with Conte and Fabio Paratici soon. He described himself as being not “necessarily worried”.

“As long as I feel good, I want to continue, but be honest with myself. My contract, I am not necessarily worried. My priority has always been Spurs.

“There will certainly be discussions in the coming months, but my priority is to remain efficient, to meet the expectations of Antonio Conte.”

Lloris on Tottenham contract: Spurs have to tie him down

Yes, sometimes Lloris has gone through sticky patches of form. His kicking is probably not the best in the league – but recently, he has been so reliable.

As he grows older with age, so does his maturity – both on and off the pitch. Spurs lack leaders, but Lloris really is one. He must be kept.

In footballing terms, 34 is old – but as a goalkeeper, he might have another five years left at the top level. His consistency is remarkable.

If Lloris is willing, Spurs really have to consider keeping Lloris for at least another 12 months – if not more. The grass is not always greener.
