Tottenham captain Hugo Lloris believes teammate Kyle Walker-Peters has great potential and it’s now up to him to show his quality in the first-team.

The 22-year-old has started as the club’s right-back in the opening two Premier League games, with the spot now up for grabs following Kieran Trippier’s exit to Atletico Madrid.

He is an attack-minded full-back that has come through the academy at the North London club and is now getting his opportunity in the senior squad.

Walker-Peters was given a stern test in the 2-2 draw with Manchester City by Raheem Sterling, but won’t have much tougher tests and manager Mauricio Pochettino is giving him the chance to impress.

“Kyle is not a novice: for a few years now, he’s been working every day with us. He knows exactly the principles and the demands of the gaffer and now he just needs experience,” Lloris said, as quoted by the Evening Standard.

“He has showed his quality in the last few seasons in training. We all know the difficulty of repeating that in games, but we’ve all seen his potential.

“When you get to this level you have to stick to this level and try to improve and he’s at the right place, with the manager, coaching staff and his team-mates.”

With Serge Aurier’s inconsistency and Juan Foyth out injured, Walker-Peters could ask for a better chance to cement his spot in the team for the long-term.

He’s a promising English defender that can offer plenty going forward with his pace and should be looking to be a creative force at the weekend against Newcastle United.

Pochettino has helped the likes of Harry Kane, Dele Alli and Harry Winks break into the Spurs first-team in recent years, so Walker-Peters now has his opportunity follow suit.
