Liverpool are interested in signing Hugo Ekitike this summer.
The Premier League champions have had a fantastic start to this transfer window. They have already signed Jeremie Frimpong, Florian Wirz and Milos Kerkez, while Giorgi Mamardashvili will also be moving to Anfield soon.
Arne Slot’s side are already stronger than they were last season, but they are not done yet — Liverpool still want to sign a new striker this summer.
Ekitike is a real option, but he will have to wait.
Hugo Ekitike needs to be patient if he wants to join Liverpool
Hugo Ekitike is a wanted man this summer.
The French striker had a phenomenal season at Eintracht Frankfurt, for whom he scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists last term.
TBR Football exclusively revealed back in April that Liverpool scouts watched Ekitike when he played against Tottenham in the Europa League.
The interest in the 23-year-old is clear, but the Reds cannot sign him until one thing happens — player sales.
That’s according to Sky Sports Germany journalist Florian Plettenberg, who said on X: “Liverpool are currently focusing on three concrete options in their search for a new number 9: Hugo Ekitike, Alexander Isak, and Victor Osimhen.
“LFC have conducted thorough checks and gathered information on all of them.
“Ekitike, for example, is very high on the list. The French striker knows that if he moves to Liverpool, he will need to be patient because the club must sell players first.”
Darwin Nunez vs Hugo Ekitike stats compared
The big sale Liverpool are trying to make this summer is that of Darwin Nunez.
If the Uruguay international is sold, the Reds will then have the room to bring in a top-class replacement, someone like Ekitike.
But how do the Frenchman’s stats over the last two years compare against that of Nunez at Liverpool?
| Games | Goals | Assists | |
| Darwin Nunez in 2023/24 and 2024/25 | 101 | 25 | 22 |
| Hugo Ekitike in 2023/24 and 2024/25 | 65 | 26 | 14 |
As the table shows above, Ekitike has scored more goals than Nunez despite playing 36 fewer games.
The Frankfurt star is younger than the Liverpool striker as well, and many in the game feel his ceiling is significantly higher.
Ekitike would be a great option for the Reds, but whether he would be willing to wait for them when other clubs are also in for him remains to be seen.
