Liverpool are making progress in talks to sign Hugo Ekitike from Eintracht Frankfurt.
The Eintracht Frankfurt No.11 scored 22 goals and provided 12 assists in 48 appearances across all competitions last season, form which clearly impressed the Premier League champions.
Liverpool had initially made an approach for Alexander Isak as Newcastle themselves tried to sign Ekitike – effectively telling the Magpies to relinquish their talisman, or miss out on a top target instead.
Newcastle have understandably chosen to keep the Swede rather than sign the Frenchman, as Liverpool now advance in talks with Eintracht Frankfurt. Fabrice Hawkins claims the 23-year-old has already agreed a contract running until 2031 with the Reds.
However, Hugo Ekitike has actually named a different side as his dream club in the past – one that may not go down too well at Anfield.
Liverpool target Hugo Ekitike has named Manchester United as his dream club
While speaking to RTL back in December 2024, the man born in Reims actually revealed Manchester United as his favourite club.
Ekitike said: “My favourite club as a child was Manchester United. I’ve always admired them.”
Of course, Manchester United and Liverpool are bitter rivals within English football, so the striker would be wise not to repeat these comments should a move to Merseyside materialise.
Even Hugo Ekitike cannot bring himself to join Manchester United at the moment
Despite his admiration for the Red Devils, Ekitike – who almost joined Crystal Palace in September 2023 – seemingly doesn’t think much of his boyhood club at this moment in time.
The aforementioned Hawkins of RMC Sport added that the Eintracht Frankfurt talisman turned down an approach from Manchester United to advance in talks with Liverpool.
Clearly, finishing 15th in the Premier League last season has taken a toll on how attractive Manchester United are to some players – even those who support them like Ekitike.
