Report: Aston Villa one of several Premier League clubs eyeing £30k-p/w ace; contract expires next year
Aston Villa are interested in a transfer for Watford midfielder Will Hughes, according to The Athletic.
The publication is claiming that the Villains and several other Premier League clubs are keeping an eye on his contract situation.
Hughes is said to be in talks with the Hornets over a new deal with his current contract set to expire next summer.
The Englishman spoke about his future last month, saying he was really happy to be at the club.
He also claimed to wanting to remain ‘settled’ after regaining promotion to the top-flight.
Hughes was a key figure for Xisco Munoz’s outfit in the second-half of last season, making 31 appearances.
TBR View: Hughes transfer would saturate the midfield for Aston Villa
The transfer of Hughes would simply saturate the midfield for Aston Villa.
Over the course of their time in the top division, the club have spent over £234m on incomings. Central midfielders like Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba has walked in and made massive impressions.
And then you have the likes of John McGinn, who has been a stalwart at the heart of the team since promotion to the top-flight.
Freshening up the squad is always a great idea. However, when you have in form midfielders, it can saturate the position.
Hughes would fail to dispossess the likes of Luiz, who was in great form last campaign.
Hughes is a good player in his own right, but, would be a wasted acquisition. With so many central options already at the club, his potential transfer would saturate the already packed squad.
