TBR View: Hughes transfer would saturate the midfield for Aston Villa

The transfer of Hughes would simply saturate the midfield for Aston Villa.

Over the course of their time in the top division, the club have spent over £234m on incomings. Central midfielders like Douglas Luiz and Marvelous Nakamba has walked in and made massive impressions.

And then you have the likes of John McGinn, who has been a stalwart at the heart of the team since promotion to the top-flight.

Freshening up the squad is always a great idea. However, when you have in form midfielders, it can saturate the position.

Hughes would fail to dispossess the likes of Luiz, who was in great form last campaign.

No player with more than 30 starts had a higher pass accuracy than the Brazilian. He also made more interceptions and clearances than the £30k-p/w 26-year-old.

Hughes is a good player in his own right, but, would be a wasted acquisition. With so many central options already at the club, his potential transfer would saturate the already packed squad.
