Daniel Ballard may still be awaiting the chance to make his Arsenal debut, but it appears that the young defender is already making a big impression on the international stage.
The 21-year-old is edging closer to reaching double figures for Northern Ireland caps, with his latest appearance coming in a friendly against USA on Sunday.
Ultimately, the game ended in defeat for Ian Baraclough’s men. But the Gunners starlet proved to be a shining light for the home side.
Ballard actually gave away a penalty for what proved to be the winner. But replays showed that the decision was extremely harsh with the defender getting a touch on the ball.
And that decision did not prevent the Belfast Telegraph from handing the Arsenal man their joint-highest rating from the game.
Ballard was rated at 8/10, and labelled a ‘huge talent’ in their assessment.
In truth, it is still difficult to see the youngster getting the chance to prove himself at Arsenal. Mikel Arteta will not be struggling for centre-back options in the summer when Ballard returns from his loan spell at Blackpool.
But shining against the likes of Giovani Reyna and Christian Pulisic will do his chances of getting an opportunity at the Emirates at some stage no harm at all.
