‘Huge gamble’: BBC pundit now thinks Conte starting 25-year-old Tottenham player would be a big risk

Tottenham Hotspur once again had to come from behind against Brentford to earn a 2-2 draw.

Goals from Vitaly Janelt and Ivan Toney saw Spurs fall behind once again in a Premier League game.

Speaking on BBC Radio 5 Live, Glenn Murray was talking about the Tottenham side.

Harry Kane got the first goal back for his side to keep up his record of scoring in every Boxing Day game he’s ever played in.

It was a fantastic header from a Clement Lenglet cross for a player who needed to get over his World Cup disappointment quickly.

Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg then continued his brilliant scoring record from midfield with a composed finish inside the box.

Conte will have been glad to see Dejan Kulusevski record another assist with some good work on the right wing.

Murray was talking about Tottenham’s front line ahead of the game, and in particular Kane.

He believed that the Englishman needs to start every game for Spurs, and bringing in Richarlison is a risk.

The Brazilian is set to be out of action for a few weeks after picking up an injury for Brazil.

He’ll be hoping his attacking teammates don’t play too well to allow him a chance to break back into the side when he returns.

Conte starting Richarlison is a risk

Speaking on BBC 5 Live, Murray said: “Harry Kane is ageing with grace. He is going to get you 20 goals a season and he can also drop deep and create chances for others.

“It’s not like when he stops scoring he’s not going to be of any use to the team.

“I still feel he is an asset for Spurs and if you drop him you are taking a huge gamble on Richarlison, when fit, producing.”

Harry Kane has made himself impossible to drop for Conte, which won’t be a surprise to Richarlison.

The Brazilian could work well in tandem with Kane, but that would almost certainly mean dropping Son Heung-min.

It’s a nice problem for Conte to have, but he might find it difficult to keep Richarlison happy if he can’t find a place for him in the team.

Starting Richarlison ahead of Kane would obviously be a massive risk, and a frankly unnecessary gamble.
