Howe calls up 'really exciting' 19-year-old to Newcastle training pre-Burnley, he's a 'pleasure to watch'

Newcastle United will be able to wrap up their 2021-22 Premier League campaign safe in the knowledge they’ll be in the competition next season.

On 21 January, the day before the Magpies headed to Leeds United, they were 19th in the table and had won just once in the league all season.

Now, Newcastle sit 12th in the standings, 11 points clear of the bottom three. They could yet finish in the top half of the table too.

While the pressure is off for the Magpies, their final league opponents of the campaign have it all to do.

Newcastle head to Burnley, who must match Leeds’ result at Brentford to survive in the Premier League.

Eddie Howe has been putting his players through their paces ahead of the game.

And Elliot Anderson, one of the brightest youngsters in the country, was also involved.

The 19-year-old is back in training at his parent club after an incredibly fruitful loan spell at Bristol Rovers.

“He’s going to be some player”

Anderson was instrumental in helping the Gas earn automatic promotion on the final day of the League Two campaign.

Against all odds, Rovers leapfrogged Northampton into third place on goal difference by running out 7-0 winners at Scunthorpe.

Anderson, who has been dubbed the ‘Geordie Maradona’, scored the seventh goal in that game. He also grabbed a hat-trick of assists.

“He’s going to be some player. And it’s going to be a pleasure to watch him as he progresses through the leagues,” Rovers ace Alex Rodman told Examiner Live.

“I’m really interested to see where he goes next year. Newcastle have got a really exciting player on their hands with him. He came in and he’s been phenomenal.”

Admittedly, Anderson is not eligible to take part in the match.

As he has been out on loan and is returning outside of the transfer window, he is not permitted to feature in any first-team match until the transfer window reopens.

Nonetheless, it’s great to see him involved in training and Howe will no doubt be taking a closer look ahead of pre-season.
